Background and Education:
Dr. Wert (He/His/Him) was raised in Amsterdam, NY. He received his Bachelors in Science Magna Cum Laude from Union College, Schenectady NY with a major in biology, and a minor in chemistry. He conducted research in Bio-remediation technologies during his undergraduate studies. He attended Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) graduating with is Doctor in Osteopathic Medicine (DO) in 2000. He completed his Internship and Internal Medicine Residency at Ingham Regional Medical Center/McLaren Greater Lansing in 2005. Dr. Wert is Board Certified in Internal Medicine by the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI) and is a Fellow in the ACOI (FACOI). Dr. Wert has been practice Internal Medicine for 20+ year in Lansing, MI. He obtained his Masters in Public Health from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 2016. The Capstone paper focused on health diversity in HIV Prevention. Dr. Wert serves an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at MSUCOM. He additionally serves on the ACOI committee on Health Equity and Inclusion in Medicine, which the ACOI has tasked to focuses on Diversity, Health Equity and Inclusion relative to inclusion of minority populations in medical education and training. This committee also is tasked to look at the unique needs of various needs and differences of minority population. Dr. Wert holds a specialist certification from the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM) related to HIV care and Prevention. He assisted the AAHIVM in re-writing their basic modules on how to destigmatizing taking a sexual health history and assist individuals in taking a comprehensive history. He is a member of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America. His focus has been the preventative medical care, sexual health, and HIV medicine. Dr. Wert is listed by the Kink Aware Professional (KAP) though the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF). Dr. Wert is a speaker at local, state and national levels on various topics relative to various health disparity topics. Dr. Wert also serves as the Medical Consultant to The Alternative Sexuality Research Alliance (TASHRA) directing medical relative topics and assisted in writing and researching the medical concerns of the marginalized communities.
Areas of Interest:
focus is in outpatient preventative medicine, men’s health, and sexual medicine. Preventative medicine has been a focus due to his Master’s in Public Health. Dr. Wert also focuses on HIV, HIV prevention and the use of Doxycycline Post-exposure prophylaxis. These are areas of where some of his research focuses. Dr. Wert also focuses on various marginalized populations. Due to his research he has been asked to speak to various medical communities on marginalized populations.
Personal Information:
Dr. Wert lives in Grand Ledge, MI. His personal interests include spending time with his family and his three cats. Additionally, he likes to travel, enjoys the theater, various cartoons, and read sci-fiction/historical novels. He has an extensive collection of Harry Potter memorabilia and has been sorted into Gryffindor.
